Vacancy - Sailors’ Society Port Chaplain for Bluff - 21st Aug 2026

Maritime Welfare Limited is the operational arm of Sailors’ Society New Zealand, representing one of the world’s oldest maritime ministries. For over 200 years, Sailors’ Society has been bringing practical care, compassion, and spiritual support to seafarers around the world.

We have been privileged to have a presence in the port of Bluff for over 100 years, serving generations of seafarers who have arrived in New Zealand from across the globe. This ministry has provided a welcoming Christian presence, practical support, and pastoral care to those who often spend many months away from their families and communities.

We are currently seeking a Sailors’ Society Port Chaplain for Bluff. This is a 20-hour-per-week ministry role offering a unique opportunity for someone with a heart for people, a passion for cross-cultural ministry, and a desire to bring Christ’s love and care to those who work at sea.

The role involves visiting ships, building relationships with international seafarers, offering pastoral and practical support, and helping ensure that those who spend months away from home experience welcome, dignity, friendship, and care while they are in port.

The ideal candidate will also be committed to developing a strong volunteer team, particularly to assist with providing transport to seafarers from the port for sightseeing and shopping excursions.
